10 to 29 September 2015 at Federation Square’s Atrium Air Gallery (enter from Swanston Street opposite Hosier Lane), Melbourne, Australia
This project suspends Melbourne’s iconic waterway and embanks it within the architectural walls of The Atrium. Flowing through the space, Yarra (suspended) employs large-format digital photography to engage a felt awareness of our geographical, physical and temporal location. Images from two sites along the Yarra river abut, drawing attention to and connecting space through the gesture of the river. The openness that results is a tangible yet temporary pause that overhangs Federation Square’s pedestrian thoroughfare. Through its stillness the work becomes a site for looking, reflecting and re-visiting.
This project is supported by the City of Melbourne 2015 Arts Grants Program, Federation Square and RMIT Link Arts and Culture and was made possible by the assistance of Adriane Hayward, Verity Hayward and Hannah Evans.
